What a weekend. I got the Carpet guy coming over to fit some carpets today in the front room, utility room, bathroom and foyer. In order for him to do that I had to clear the rooms, and Mia and I did that in relays over the weekend. And now, the first day off I've had for ages, (it being the Summer holiday now of course) I spent the day finishing up the rooms, scraping foam stuck to the floorboards, and hoovering...
Then as I was finishing up and waiting for the man to arrive, I got a call from the estate agent asking if I could do a viewing today. The house is a wreck, furniture piled up in the middle room, washing machine and drier in the kitchen, all the contents of the bathroom piled up in the storage room (which we call Henry's Room on account of the fact the hoover lives there)... not to mention we still haven't finished shifting all the junk out of Hattie's room.
But thinking about it, what would be the best way to see the house? Completely trashed so you HAVE to use your imagination in order to see the spaces? I said bring them on. Sure enough, Ben from the agency arrived at 12. The prospective buyers arrived and I said "Welcome to my beautiful home..." They laughed. Seemed like a nice enough couple, though, and they didn't mind at all that the house was a complete wreck. They have dogs too, which can only be a good thing.
So as they were walking around the carpet guys arrived. Bedlam ensues. Ah well.
Also, the Internet and phones got cut off because I forgot to pay the bill. Ahem. Okay, my fault. But darn it I paid the bill yesterday and today they were still not on. I called Telewest. They said did I check the phone socket with another phone. No. Bought £4 cabled phone in ASDA. I tried it. It worked. Doh. Base station on the DECT phone seems to be busted. Weird co-incidence. Okay, Internet... Reset the Internet router. It worked too. I suck. I manage the phones and Internet at a large school, and I can't even manage my own phone and Internet. How crap am I? But I'm glad today is over. The house looks wonderful though. Worth all the effort.
But after this week I'm going to have a week off. Bliss. Watching DVDs all day,
running programs on my brain machine, writing a new screenplay maybe, and most of all spending some quality time with the kids. We'll have a bit of proper holiday time for Mia and I later in the Summer, but for now I can only really think about it a week at a time.
