Day two in hell

Had the day from hell today but it ended well. I set off bright and early at around 6:50am so I would be in Bristol in good time to take pictures of all the new students who started today at 9:30am. Around 8:30am I was still stuck in traffic just outside Bristol. At 9:00am I'd moved about 100 yards. At 9:30am and still stuck in traffic I was looking for a discarded spoon in the car so I could scoop out my own fricking eyeballs. Yeech.

I arrived at work at about 9:50am, and had a backlog of students to photograph, and I was still busting for a pee after three hours in the car. I hadn't had coffee or a cigarette, and I was starving because of the early start and I couldn't have anything to eat before I went... I took pictures all day till about 12:30, about which time my bladder had had enough and bounced to the bathroom all on its own. The cigarette I borrowed from a 2nd year student went outside and smoked itself because it got tired of waiting. Someone brought me a cup of coffee but it went cold and I had to drink it that way, tasting like stale muck from the bottom of a thermos flask. I yelled out the window to anyone who would listen "kill me now, shoot me in the face, someone." A few students smiled and waved cheerily. Sigh.

On the up side I did get the pictures into the office database in record time so that lecturers with no short term memory can use them as a crib sheet to figure out who the heck they are talking to. Plus my friend from France called on my Skype hotline to tell me my proposal was accepted and can I come over to France for a meeting some time in the next couple of weeks. This is really cool but I can't process this information with the crap day I've had. I'll get excited tomorrow.

Hattie was off sicktoday and stayed home,but I forgot to call the schoolto tellthem she was off sick. They'll probably send a truant officer.
