Spring has sprung, the grass is ris...

...I wonder where the birdies is.

March, and another birthday looms on the 10th. As I turn 47 I am wondering to myself, did I ever suspect I would live to such a ripe old age? I feel old and distinctly ripe.

I buried the last of my grandparents yesterday. Frances Harriet Why was aged 95 when she died last week, and Tuesday 6th March was when we buried her near her home in Northolt, Middlesex. We lost her husband, William Why known as Bill, over 6 years ago. Seems like yesterday, and yeah it still hurts when I remember his passing.

It was a beautiful day when we laid Frances to rest, warmest day of the year so far and wouldn't you know it myself and all the South males who perspire so easily are all wearing dark suits in the sun. It was a sad but loving occaision. It was a Humanist ceremony, so no religion, although time was allowed for prayer because Humanists don't begrudge anyone their beliefs, apparently. But due respect and kindness was shown, and the service was dignified and stately and everyone had a discreet cry, even my little sister who never cries about anything.

I met a lot of family who I haven't met before, and everyone said I didn't look my age. I get that a lot. Ate cake, drank tea. Shot the breeze with my two brothers Andy and Tim, and talked to my sis a lot, although we only saw each other last weekend when I was up in London for a 50th birthday... oh and a gay wedding.

Oh man last weekend. A friend Damian asked Mia and I up for his 50th birthday celebration (my second close buddy to reach the big 5-0) We danced the night away with gays and lesbians. Really had the best time I've had in ages. Got a cab back to my sister's in the wee small hours.

They apparently are going to sign the papers soon, but after 15 years Damian and Nigel are getting hitched. Well it's a Civil Partnership, but it's married in all but name. Legally partnered. And I couldn't be happier for them.

So it's been a week of ups and downs. Now I'm down again. Coming up to my birthday and I'm flat broke again. Can't afford to put gas in the car or top up my phone. All be solved next week when I get paid again, but no phone or Internet till then... might actually be a bonus. I'll have to read a book or watch TV.
